It's over already huh? Ya ever notice tha weekend never lasts long, when ya havin' fun?Sheeet...Let me recap.
Friday nite.
You Already know this drill. Rev's in Country Club Hills was its usual jumpin' self. Tha same Black Star power was in effect. Some of tha better points were that there were less guys there, wearin' those Xtra medium T-shirts ( they were actually just medium) And ladies i'm sooo proud of you.Your hair and toe game was on point. (except for tha honey who had a severe case of "knuckle toes") Aside from that..tha nite was tha usual juicy goodness. Oh yeah, big ups to my 1st sighting of tha House Music tranney. Its kinda like Bigfoot, ya only see it once in a blue friggin moon..(Note: Don't at tha throat to validate..may agitate him/her.) ONE LOVE to Hula, Maurice Joshua, Liddell "NuNu" Townsell, Stacy Kidd and Chicago's tightest female DJ Sundance. Tha Clubhouse group rocks.
Saturday afternoon.
I was fortunate to host (Yeah...somebody let me near a mic.) a festival in tha cozy hood of Phoenix IL. tha Phoenix Fest is a annual event in these parts. It's a mix of picnic, family reunion, and tha ever entertaining talent showcase.NOW... this..uh...talent showcase..I don't and won't attack anybody who gives an effort to do their best.BUT...if you don't strive for some modicum of different...How do you expect to take your talent further. Most of all tha acts were rap.(not Hip Hop...rap. yeah mofos there's a difference.)
Heeere we go....To all my"MySpace" rappers. Can we talk about somethin' other than tha money you have (Allegedly)and tha drugs you deal (Asprin does'nt count) and tha women you bed down (Look at yourself...do you think ANYBODY is gonna believe you?) YOU'RE ON MY-DAMN-SPACE!!! your marketin' plan is f**kin jaded!!! Look, If Facebook is a house...Then MySpace is tha apartment you move out of without cleanin' it. AND..please stop wit all tha damn colors. You're startin to look like you molest crayons or you melt Skittles into your clothes. There was ONE group that stood out for their presence, delivery and overall persona. BIG UPS to " Tha G Twinz" out of Chi-town. Tha beats..crisp. Tha rhymes positive..Their show...TIGHT. Mad love out to their manager Pierce Henry, constant pro throughout.
NOW... tha R&B. Ladies...you don't have to ooze sex to be noticed (YEAH...I said it!) if you are doin' tha oozin' sex thing...at least dress right. PLEEEASE..don't wear a loud azz sheer top, wit a WHITE bra under it!!! Ya look like a black Peggy Bundy. And wearin' revealin' s**t is played out. I reeeeally don't wanna see your fruits and berries for tha time you're on stage. Give me personality..give me content..not crotch shots and you're "inner nasty azz."
THE BEST PART of tha showcase was tha "Old Skool" portion of tha show. This episode was, by far what music, talent and personality mesh beautifully. Tha bands like "Men of Mecca" and "Tha Family Reunion Band" are tha essence of music. They don't give a damn about impressions..they care about content. They strive to stand out, and not settling on blendin' in. And tha nite's Special guest of "Steel Bill Revue wit Shorty's Rhythm and Blues Band"was truly a treat. Tha gritty band, along wit featured vocalists Benard, Mark Shaw and Bobby Renyolds, bought tha delta blues wit them.Tha music drove us while tha audience were passengers. Malaco Records own Steel Bill was truly representin' for tha delta.
All in all, It was a Grreat day in tha park. Aside form tha rain, tha women wit "Skittle weaves"(All tha different colors hair/weave) and tha fellas who strive to look like Steve Harvey knock-offs (These linen-lookin' shirt/pant sets guys wear...looks like they're goin to bed at tha club) It was festive. SPECIAL THANKS to Terry and Loretta Wells for allowin' me to have tha chance to do my thang ALSO...I LOVE THA TOWN OF PHOENIX IL!! Tha people are real and tha atmosphere electric.
If you got some ish ya want me to check out, hit me up on Twitter (MAYHEMM09) or FACEBOOK...(see Grown and Sexy as opposed to...)
ONE LOVE.
